Brick Wall Sample Sculpture and Paint

This is a 24 in. x 12 in. sample of a brick wall with a partially broken stucco covering. I got the inspiration from a stock image showing a well worn brick wall that had been covered by a tan stucco that broken off most of the wall. Some of the wall had bricks, some was covered in mortar, and some had part of the stuccoI sculpted the bricks, mortar and stucco from a styrofoam block using hot wire foam cutting tools, chisels and a box cutter. I roughened the edges of the bricks and stucco with a stiff brush and textured the faces of the rocks with the brush and other hard tools to scratch, dent and texture the surfaces.
I painted the styrofoam with a basecoat bristol brush in medium gray color. I added some texture using an acrylic modeling paste to emulate the stucco look. I then sprinkled some model railroad scenery snow to add a grainy texture across the entire surface.
I then used a stiff cleaning brush to flyspeck the gray mortar between the bricks and the middle texture of gray mortar between the bricks and stucco. I used white, gray and black specks. I painted some darker grays and blacks in the cracks and beneath the bricks to show some shadows to give the faces a little more dimension.
Once that dried, I painted the bricks a red color, altering some of the faces with lighter and darker tones. I painted the mortar a lighter gray, and the stucco a warmer tan/yellow color. I added a variety of colors to the faces with flyspecking, dry brushing and transparent washes to simulate cracking, peeling and weathering. I mixed a transparent wash with black and burnt umber acrylic and water, then sprayed the whole wall down in places to tie the whole piece together. I let this drip to show more age and weathering.
Once dry, I sprayed the wall with a matte varnish.
